I think the audio is coming through if you can hear me, I just want to say welcome AM.
Welcome to this event today, we're going to be talking about what to know about applying to Leola. It's very brief. It's very brief presentation. I'm going to go through a number of things and then we are going to come.
We're going to answer have a time to answer some questions to start my name is Chanel Greer I'm an admission representative here at leola yeah I've been here for about a year and a half and I'm really excited to talk to you about the process for applying if if you're worried about like taking notes or anything like that um just know that this will be recorded for later so you'll be able to.
Tosin Akintola
05:02:25 PM
Good Evening, please make sure you are using a supported browser, if you have any technical difficulties let us know.
Go back and listen to everything so don't feel super concerned about taking notes. Stuff like that. And if I go too fast or you know if you have questions please. Feel free to ask that's what I'm here for but yeah.
We can go ahead and get started if you see me looking down upon.
Just know that I have some notes here, so that's why I'm looking down. I want to make sure that I cover all my bases everything like that, yeah, so to get started.
Tosin Akintola
05:03:01 PM
We will be answering questions throughout the event so please send in your questions as they come on
The very first thing is the materials right so we have a very simple application process overall and I'll go through each one of these materials again, please. Feel free to ask questions so at the Top we have the common app. We are common app exclusive so that's the only thing that we used and again. It's a very simple process through the common app is where you're going to find the essay there. I believe a number of different options, you have with?
In that so you can choose any of those options. I think there's also a number one that let's you choose like your own topic. So you can write about whatever you want approach it that I have for students when you're writing your essay because it's the common app essay and it goes to as many schools as you want. Please make sure that you don't include a specific school in your essay just because it's going to go to all the schools, so if you say for example, for Loyola if you say you know everything and then you say I'm super excited to come to Loyola?
That's going to go to us, but it's also going to go to the five other schools that are applying to so please. Please make sure that you that you don't do that. In addition to the essay, though we're going to have your high school transcript with the transcript. What we're looking at is the rigor of your high school curriculum. So we're looking at. You know did you take honors. AP GT I be all of the letters. I really look at all those things to see if you challenge yourself throughout high school so that's when things were going to look at your GPA.
And things of that nature after that, we have the council recommendation and the teacher recommendation for the teacher recommendations a question that I get a lot is you know, oftentimes students will have 2 they'll have 2 recommendations already from teachers and they ask if they can submit those the answer is yes. You definitely are welcome to submit 2 recommendations if you already have them, but again, you were only required to submit one teacher recommendation an one counts recommendation In addition to that we have application fee or application fee $60.00.
And then we have the standardized test scores for those scores. We accept both the SAT and the AC T and we super score books. So if you take the tests, you know a number of times you can submit all those attempts and will combine them to give you the best overall score see I hope that makes sense. When you look my to see if I missed anything. Another pro tip that I like to tell students so on the common app. If you've looked at it before you will know that there is a section that allows you to submit activities.
I always recommend for student because a lot of high schoolers will have you know they have a resume already so they might submit that? Please make sure that you put your activities write them out in the common app and submit a resume if you want to, but don't only submit your activities through the resume because a lot of times they might get missed so it'll look like you know, maybe you haven't participated in as many as many activities. So I would say definitely write them out and then if you have a resume you're welcome to submit that as well.
Slide OK so next for uhm. We are also a test optional University what that means is that if a student does not wanna submit their scores if they feel as though they don't demonstrate them fully as a student in the classroom. You are not required to submit them. If you do choose to submit to not submit your scores. There's no penalty for that. So you have equal consideration for admission as well as merit based scholarship. So I think that it's a good option. If you're thinking about it In other words, If you choose.
Do not submit your scores you still have your considered for the full range of Merit Scholarship. I know that a lot of times when students are thinking about applying this optional. They are a little bit nervous about it and I want to tell you hear that if you do choose to apply test optional. There's no penalty for it. We don't read into that. We have this option here to be a benefit to students because we recognize that students might not be good test takers for a number of reasons right maybe you have testing xiety.

Does an internship count as an activity?
Maybe you're just having a bad Saturday right, but you're still a very strong student academically and so we don't want that to hinder you from being able to get a good education and go to a good school so that's why we have the test optional policy. We've been test optional for about 10 years now and we find that the students who come here who don't submit their scores do just as well as the students who do so again. It's a really good option. I will also say though, that were test optional. But we're not test blind so if you have really strong scores. We want to see them so definitely definitely submit.
Tosin Akintola
05:08:18 PM
Hi Yanet, absolutely internships count as an activity, as do part time jobs, babysitting, dogsitting etc.
If you have strong scores, but to move on next. We have our deadlines, so as you can see we have early action as well as regular decision are early action is non binding so if you apply early in our accepted you are not required to comfortably alright. We encourage students to go out explore figure out which school is their best fit. We honestly book at both these deadlines are the same, so it doesn't really matter, which which one you choose at the same time, though, we do recommend that students apply.
Early just because it gives them more time right so if you apply early you hear back sooner and you have more months to sit with all of your choices and make the best decision. So we recommend applying early, but again we look at both deadlines. The same and it doesn't really matter, which one you choose. I will also point out so you can see our notification deadlines are listed here as well so for early action. The latest you would hear back in January, 15th, but we actually try and get our decisions.
Out in in December, so it might be a nice early. Christmas gift right. So yeah, so the earliest is the latest I'm sorry is January, 15th, though, and then same thing for regular decision. The very latest you would hear back from us is April 1st. But we tried have the decisions out around March. Ish right so yeah, again definitely recommend applying early you know if you can, but to move.

05:09:45 PM
Do you need to include any supplements if exercise test optional?
On next let's see we have scholarships and financial aid. The merit based scholarships are handled in my office undergraduate admission. You are automatically considered for merit based scholarships when you apply so there's nothing extra you need to do there. No separate applications or anything like that when when you apply your also automatically considered I'm sorry, said that when you were admitted. I'm sorry when you're admitted you receive the decision.
Tosin Akintola
05:10:10 PM
Hi Zawadi, there are no additional requirements for being test-optional
Rory
05:10:15 PM
My high school does not weight my GPA-will Loyola weight it for me?
For your for your scholarship along with everything else. So it will be included with your admission to say congratulations. You've been admitted with X amount of dollars in a scholarship on the other side, though for need based aid. That's handled in the office of financial aid. They do require an application. That's the fast sub. They're also going to ask for the CSS S profile, which is slightly different from the Fasa. It's through College Board, an eye masks more nuanced questions to get outta families will need so.
Tosin Akintola
05:10:50 PM
Hi Rory, Yes we will recalculate your GPA to give you credit for your AP, IB, Dual Enrollment and Honors courses
Zawadi
05:10:54 PM
Thank you
Annmarie
05:10:57 PM
when is FAFSA due ?
We asked for both so that we can give you the best financial aid package possible and we encourage everyone to apply for financial aid just because the vast majority of our students receive something in 8. So definitely definitely apply another thing I'll point out in terms of differences for kind of moving backward to that. Last slide about early action versus regular decision. When you receive your when you receive your need based financial aid you typically find.
Tosin Akintola
05:11:03 PM
No problem!
I got out about a month after you receive your admission, so if you apply early action. You're going to get your financial aid. A little bit sooner than you would if you applied regular decision. So I think that's another benefit to apply early and then you also want to make sure that you're getting your financial aid application in by the priority deadline this year for early action. It is December 15th so something else to keep in mind that actually actually about it right now we can answer questions.
Ally
05:11:45 PM
If I apply early action is the deadline for my financial aid forms the same as the early action deadline?
Uhm let me see I'm looking through the questions now question, which is if I apply early action is the deadline for my financial aid forms the same as the early action deadline, so the answer is no right so if you're applying early action in your also applying for financial aid. The admission like the application deadline is November 15th. But the financial aid deadline is a month. Afterwards, it's it's.

05:12:09 PM
does loyola include sports scholarships?
Tosin Akintola
05:12:30 PM
Hi Annmarie, The FAFSA priority deadline is Dec 1st, but we do continue to award and package families after, it is not a hard and fast deadline
Let's see what else did it do does Loyola include sports scholarships. So we do offer a number of scholarships or they're kind of more like grants or awards through through different sports. Usually they have to be Division One sports, but they're not handled in our office there handled directly with the sports teams themselves. I don't know how many of you are juniors or seniors, but I would say if you are thinking.
Rory
05:12:37 PM
Awesome! Thank you!
Ally
05:12:43 PM
My question was just answered. Thanks!
Yanet
05:12:51 PM
Does Loyola take IB credits?
About playing a sport for Division One team and you were hoping to get some type of money from that, I would say you want to speak with the coaches as soon as possible right as soon as possible. You can send them an email. Typically, we encourage you to email all the coaches on the team because they're very busy people right and so, if one person. One coach doesn't see the email. Maybe another will so I would say definitely definitely rejected the coaches because they also have their own recruitment process. The whole thing so that's handled outside of our office. Let's see what?
Xenya
05:13:26 PM
If we would like to report test scores, do you require official test scores sent through the agency, or is self-reporting okay?
Tosin Akintola
05:13:26 PM
Hi Yanet, we take anything above a 6 for the IB exam, but you will receive credit for taking the course during the application review process
Other questions, we have to do this question says if we would like to report test scores do you require official test scores sent through the agency? I'm assuming you mean like College Board or you know like the test the test reporting site or is itself is self reporting OK, so the answer is we do require official scores to come directly from College Board. We don't necessarily accept you know.
Nia
05:13:40 PM
How far in advance should test scores be sent so that they are received on time?
Self reported scores something else you could do is if your counselor your your guidance or your college counselor and they have access to your scores like the PDF print out that you can get on mine they can also send it to us directly so you could send it to your counselor counselor can send it to your counselor or the the direct admissions email so our email is admissions at Loyola dot Edu so it can go to either of those emails and we can we can upload them that way.
Xenya
05:14:14 PM
Thank you!
Those are the 2 options but you cannot self report them as the answer let's see what other questions do we have.
Annmarie
05:14:21 PM
Any last minutet tips for those who are applying Nov 15th?
Zawadi
05:14:22 PM
Do you give credit for AP courses?
Any last minute tips for those who are applying November 15th uh. Let's see I would say.
My advice for students who are applying November 15th is one to not put too much pressure on yourself right I know that the overall college you know admissions process the applying process can be can be daunting it can be really challenging so I'm take a breath right and know that you you probably got this and I think that a lot of the evaluation is based off of things you've been doing for years right so you've been building up to this moment since since ninth grade right so there isn't a lot that you can do within that small window and senior.
Tosin Akintola
05:15:06 PM
Hi Zawadi, we accept a 4 or 5 typically for the AP, some disciplines will accept a 3 on the exam as well.
Tosin Akintola
05:15:22 PM
This is a comprehensive list of what we accept for AP scores https://www.loyola.edu/department/academic-advising/faculty/advising-handbook/ap-scores
Here, what you do have control over right so you have control over your application itself, so making sure that you're checking everything that you're making sure all the information that you want the schools to know about you that it's in your application putting a lot of effort into your essay. I think the essay is one of the most valuable valuable pieces of the application because it's really the only time that you get to speak as a student in your own words about what you're interested in and what you're passionate about so I would say put.
Zawadi

05:16:04 PM
Where can I find contact info for disability services?
Furniture essay be creative right if you're able to draw in the reader from the moment they open your essay then you're doing a good job right because we read thousands of essays and you know they can all blend together so if you're able to stick out that way. That's a really. That's a really good. I think thing that you can do and then just visit the schools. You know if you're able to attend an open house if you're able to do just like a regular campus visit if the school like if we come to your high school sign up for that visit because sometimes it can be helpful to put a name.
Tosin Akintola

05:16:26 PM
Do you all except dual enrollment credits?
To a face, especially if you're highly interested right so if you're highly interested in us, I would say definitely reach out to your counselor even if it's just to say hi. I plan on applying I'm looking forward to hearing back from you right so even stuff like that. I think can go along way.
Mason
05:16:33 PM
Hi guys! I've heard that college admissions may look at applicants' social media when considering their applications. Does Loyola? And if so, does it matter if an applicant does not use any social media?
Did you do, do do? Do we accept dual enrollment credits right? So this is a question I get? Are we get a lot in the office and the answer is yes right so technically we do, indeed accept dual enrollment credits every college does it differently. But for us. We will accept the credit if it was taught by a college professor and it has to be either taken at the college or with other college students right so that could mean if it's like?
Tosin Akintola
05:17:08 PM
Hi Mason, we do not look into your social media when considering your application. We respect your privacy!
Emeril
05:17:12 PM
Thank you!
Online class you're being graded amongst other college students taking that all my class. So those are really the 2 biggest requirements. There's actually a whole list of requirements like the whole process that explains how you go through bringing in dual enrollment credits on our website. If you go to our website. In in the search bar type in AP and IB. It also lists dual enrollment in tells you the whole process. That's something that's evaluated after you would get to Loyola. So assuming you come to Loyola. That's when you would submit those credits to see if we.
We would be able to accept them for dual enrollment. Sam see any other questions does model account with a community service program. If it does? How does it work? I'm not quite sure I don't quite fully understand the question if you're saying like? Do we look at community service. We do look at community service hours when we're looking at the application. It's not a major factor, but I mean.
The service is a big part of our community here at Loyola so the students who come to Loyola do a lot of community service on our campus. So it's nice to know that a student has similar interests to our general community. But yeah, if you're asking if we have community service opportunities here. The answer is yes. So I hope that I answered your question in whichever way you meant it. Let's see, there's a question about Massena do. Massena topics change every year. I would recommend if you want. We could send you that stuff.
Caroline
05:18:31 PM
Do Messina topics change every year?
Mason
05:18:36 PM
Thank you.
Annmarie
05:18:37 PM
Can't wait to apply ! very nervous but excited !
Ana
05:18:40 PM
Yes, the opportunities! Thank You!
After we can get you some more information about Massena did did you do? Let's see I don't see any other questions? Does anyone have any other questions?
I don't know if there was one about AP credits or not, that I might have seen but if anyone's interested and want to know about. AP credits or I be the answer is yes. We do accept both AP an IB credits so typically for a pee wee except fours and fives sometimes will accept it 3. If it's a particularly challenging course. But usually for survives and then for IBI believe it's Sevens and eights or don't quote me on it, but there's a whole list on our website again same place if you.
Nia
05:19:46 PM
How far in advance should test scores be sent so that they are received on time?
Type in the search part. AP and IB it tells you all the courses. We accept the scores that we need and then will also tell you what they would translate to once you get oil so I highly recommend looking at that list 'cause. It's way more accurate and I couldn't possibly remember all the courses at the time I had let me check one more time for any final questions up. Let's see how far in advance should test scores be sent so that they received.
On time I would say submit them as soon as possible if for if there's like an extenuating circumstance right so if there's for some reason like we took the November. You took the normal member test an you're you're waiting for those scores sometimes if you let your counselor know like. Hey, I'm waiting on these scores to come back. They can be a little bit flexible. Or they can maybe like wait a little bit before they before they start evaluating your application.
I would say as soon as possible typically if you took like the October if you took the October test that should be fine I would say here did he took the November tests that might be cutting it a little bit close but we can be flexible as long as you're able to reach out to us is what I would say let's see any other questions question here it might be like a super complicated question that we would send you an email about afterwards so if I don't answer questions that might be what's going to happen let's see.
Yanet
05:21:06 PM
Thank You! very excited to apply to Loyola!
What other opportunities for study abroad are internships coincide with forensic science Seattle that's odd we can send you an email about that. I don't see any other questions so with that. I think that might be the end of the chat what I was going to say. I'm trying to look at my notes to one thing I would say is we're having an open house this Saturday. November 9th so if you have never been to the campus before or maybe you have been but it was just like A.
Addie
05:21:30 PM
What other opportunities for study abroad or internships coincide with a Forensic Studies major?
Regular visit I would say please. Please consider coming for the open house just because it's a really nice opportunity to build upon your knowledge about the school and just see it for yourself right so you get to take a tour. You could talk to students. But you can also sit in an academic sessions as well. So you can learn about the different academic departments or special interest sessions. You can sit in on those and just learn more about the University. So I really think that it, you get the whole package right out of the open house.

Especially for anyone who lives a little bit farther if you're able to take the time to come. You really get the most out of the experience you can go to our website and just click on like where it says visit opportunities an and that's how you can visit. But yeah, I'll check one more time for any final questions. did I get your name and contact for anyone who didn't know that I started very early and I saw I saw whole bunch. People joined after I had already started and I was halfway through.
